Barclays – Buying Abroad website, July 2006
This website is a sub-section of Barclays.co.uk and was designed as a destination for people looking to buy abroad. The initial phase was aimed at people interested in the 'sunbelt' – France, Spain, Portugal and Italy.
I did the initial designs to which the finished item is pretty faithful. Because it's – to some extent – separate from the main Barclays.co.uk website, we had the oportunity to adapt Barclays' visual identity to give it a more aspirational and continental feel. Central to the site is the large Flash-based navigation which can be seen on the homepage. The four panels expand on rollover to reveal the bigger picture, each representative of the country behind it. On each of the countries' landing pages, the Flash panel included some subtle animation to bring the scene to life. The site was built so that it looks and appears the same for users who do not have Flash Player. The website was Designed and developed by Dare.
